Settling In...

So, I know this is pretty bad, but we've been married almost 9 months and have yet to find a home church. It's always something, we always have an excuse or David is working,.. but we decided that having a home church is a priority, especially while David is gone. So, last night we looked at two Baptist churches in our area and decided that since he isn't working on Sunday morning this week, that we would go to church. I can only speak for myself, but I loved the church we chose! The congregation was smaller, but the atmosphere was good. The worship service we chose was more contemporary, but they offer a traditional service as well and they have a young married couples class that is taught by the head pastor and his wife. It just seemed to be everything I could ask for in a church, plus I already know a couple of the college students that attend there. But, aside from everything, I think the best part was getting back into a church and having that connection! I was cooking lunch when we got home and just had a completely peaceful feeling knowing I had started my week off on the right foot! And today's been pretty good in general! So, it's Sunday,... a new week has begun, and we cannot wait to make the most of it!

Preparation

So, it's been awhile since I last blogged. David has gone to a few more trainings and we're preparing more and more each day for this deployment. We just had our Spring Break and he was absolutely amazing! I went with the women to Tempe, AZ and when I came home at 4 AM on Tuesday morning, he had cleaned and organized the entire house, done all of the laundry, cleaned my car, and then left roses and the New Moon movie in my front seat for me. And as if that isn't enough, he had dinner ready that night when I came home from meetings. He made my recipe of spaghetti and meatballs and it was absolutely delicious! What more could a gal ask for? This past week has been absolutely amazing with us and I see the rest of our lives like this!
On Wednesday, after talking for awhile about it, we decided to go look at motorcycles. David has wanted one for awhile and I want him to be able to have one. His car is not the most reliable thing, getting 11 miles to the gallon when it actually works, and he has to take mine to trainings, leaving me at home with a mostly non-working car. So, we decided to look at bikes as a temporary fix on getting a new car, and we found one!!

It is a used Suzuki SGX 600 and we got a wonderful deal on it! Plus, it gets 47 miles to the gallon, which is much better than what we currently get! And David is SOOO excited! He does so much for us and works so hard to give us a good life, I truly believe that he deserves some fun stuff, especially now when we're still young and before he gets ready to deploy for a year and a half!! I know that a lot of people don't understand why we did this, but it's also not there choice to make or understand! We both thought long and hard on the decision to purchase this and David is so logical he even tried talking himself out of it multiple times, but I'm glad we went ahead and got the bike!
We've started making plans for this next year. Our lease ends soon and even though we love where we are, we feel it's best to downsize, especially with him gone. We're sticking with the same management, but moving into a smaller complex and a one bedroom apartment. The location will be even more ideal and manageable and the price of rent will be even better! We're planning on moving sometime this summer, amid training after training and summer classes. We are also going to be getting a storage unit to put all of the things we have in our second bedroom now.
Along with finishing school by Spring 2012, it is also my job as an Army wife to save the money we make and prepare for our life after David returns. We want to buy a car and be prepared to buy a house after this deployment ends. David wants to start a family too and I want us to be financially prepared! I think we've both seen what can happen when people are unprepared and not responsible with their spending and we don't want to ever have to deal with that mistake. I think we've learned well by watching others! The possibilities that this next year holds and the opportunities to prepare a good life for us are so very exciting and bring hope to a scary and unknown situation, but we have faith that everything will work out wonderfully when this is all done!!
